Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, a cultural melting pot known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow traditional houses. Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths. As I arrived in Dam square there was a protest going on for the Free Palestine movement.
Amsterdam central station is magnificent and it is very well connected to other parts of the Netherlands by fast trains. It’s also a great central point for Amsterdam and most attractions are in walking proximity to the station.
Amsterdam centre is relatively small so you can walk around everywhere, or jump on the tram which is also easy to use. You can buy a 24 or 48 hour ticket, or individual tickets which last 1 hour which are all reasonably priced. There is a lot to see including its flower markets.
One of the most popular things to do is to take a canal tour to view the city especially at night so you can appreciate it’s fine architecture.
Amsterdam by night seems like a different place and its worth venturing out to see what it has to offer.
You cannot come to Amsterdam without trying the Dutch Waffles!
A beautiful city you can just walk around in and enjoy the architecture. You can also find some really quirky shops like this Rubber Duck store!
I found that most attractions in Amsterdam such as museums only take payment by card or online, just something to be aware of if you are planning to pay in cash.
