Amsterdam: Coffeeshops and Red Light District

I decided to to a private crime tour which was primarily based around the Red Light District, but was also very informative about the history and evolution of Dutch laws. I’d highly recommend Trigger Tours if like me you like to do something a little alternative – https://triggertours.com/tours/private-amsterdam-crime-tour/

Cannabis Museum

I visited this museum from a place of science and it intrigue into the hybridaization of different cannabis strains.

Interesting to learn about the many uses of cannibis (it’s not just for getting high!). Hemp is used to make sustainable, durable clothing and hemp is even used in i3 electric cars by BMW’s to make their doors lighter and thus use less electricity to function.

Of course it also have a well known medicinial use

I really liked the timeline of war on weed starting from the 1380 to 2014, it was very informative with new snippets:

There were a few posters up of celebrity users, some of which I found surprising (Shiva) others not as much, Bob Marley, Cypres Hill and Snoop Dogg.

Coffeeshop recommendation from the Cannabis museum and some of the various dispensing mechanisms on display:

Coffeeshops

If you want a coffee you need to go to the cafe. If you want a little bit of something else then you go to the coffeeshop!

Despite what most people believe the mass production of cannabis is actually illegal – it was decriminalised in 1975 as the Dutch police prioritized the war on harder drugs such as Cocaine and Heroin. Most of the cannabis sold in coffeeshops is actually smuggled into the country from other places such as Morocco, California or Afghanistan which is crazy to think about as it can openly be smoked on the street. If suppliers are caught providing shops with cannibis they much pay reparations through legal means.

There are various themed coffeeshops sacttered around Amsterdam you’ll find mostly full of tourists (Most of the people I spoke to in Amsterdam didn’t smoke).

Rusland was one of my favourites coffeeshops with a Russian theme – and Putin’s Lounge smoking area.

You can not buy cannabis in non-coffeeshops but you can find other related good and seeds.
