Netherlands: Zaanse Schans

Travelling to Holland would not be complete without viewing the iconic windmills. Still in practical use to produce flour and cut wood, I wonder why they are not more common place as a great use of a natural power source.

Cheese Making

Interestingly most of the cheeses were vegetarian, the only ones which used animal rennet were the classic Gouda and sausage shaped cheese. I bought myself a pesto cheese as it was so unique. These cheeses also come vacuum packed and can be stored outside the fridge for up to two weeks so they are good for travel.

Clog Making

Clogs are still worn by the Dutch for not only for traditional reasons such as weddings but practical activities such as field work by farmers, the clogs protect their feet from damage by cows who may accidentally trod on them.

It was beautiful to watch the sunset over the windmills just before it was time to leave.
