Rotterdam: Hip Hop Huis (House of Hip Hop)

It’s no secret that HipHopHuis believes in the strength of the community. We exist because of these scenes that keep growing and evolving. These communities and their innovators are the number one partners in our programs. The bboy scene, the ballroom community, the experimental scene, the popping community, the house community, the beatmakers scene etc etc. For various projects and programs we work with partners like the Notorious IBE, Kunsthal, Dutch Dance League, VSB fund, Concrete Blossom, De Doelen, Museum Rotterdam, Operator radio etc etc.

As part of a pilot project, HipHopHuis has brought together different community leaders that move within the cultural scene in Rotterdam to discuss ownership, power dynamics and claiming space. In a series of powertalks powered by VSB Fund we focus on upgrading our self-awareness, strategies and knowledge as well as bicultural creatives.

A brilliant organisation founded in 2002 by Hip Hop enthusiasts to create a community for the youth involvd involved in Hip Hop music, dance or street art. Classes include hip hop, house, breakin and poppin’: http://www.hiphophuis.nl/

Unfortunately I was unable to go inside this time but I will be back!

Hip Hop Huis Address: Delftsestraat 19A, 3013 AD Rotterdam, Netherlands

Rotterdam central train station is HUGE and quite futuristic. Rotterdam itself is a great city, I have many friends who love to live here and there is always a lot going on. I will have to come back and explore more!
